9.3: Light, economical, cool packaging for Pasteurized Beer

THE BACKGROUND

More and more beer producers had already realized about the benefits of switching from glass to PET; unbreakabilitysafety, light-weighting possibilities and the lower cost associated to production and transportation. This is why PET Engineering’s team has worked on a new 500 ml PET bottle for tunnel pasteurized beer able to combine a premium look with high mechanical performances (e.g. thermal stability, shape upkept, stable base after pasteurization).

THE PROJECT

With a weight of just 26.3g, this new packaging is the result of highly focused research and development. The ad-hoc preform designed, engineered and injected by PET Engineering, allows a perfect weight distribution and thanks to some R&D activities on several monolayer materials for high temperature the bottle is not altered after pasteurization for ten minuteswithstanding 30 PUs (pasteurising unit) in the tunnel while the standard for Lager beers is 20 PUs.

9.3 is PET Engineering’s proposal for small beer formats in a minimalist but distinctive shape, white, brown and green, with champagne base and pull-off cap by Pelliconi as an ideal alternative to glass which could easily be manufactured in bottling plants with slight modifications on the filling line.
