PET Engineering awarded in the category “Best Packaging Innovation” at the Global Bottled Water Awards 2013, held in Nashville on November 13 during the 10th Global Bottled Water Congress. The 2013 Global Bottled Water Awards recognised a range of categories in every sector of the global packaged water industry including product innovation, packaging, sustainability and marketing.
Evolight 1.5l has been rewarded thanks to three peculiar characteristics: its record weight, good mechanical performances and the possibility of being used for both still and sparkling water.
The research conducted for the EvoLight 1.5l started from designing a grapping area which usually, due to high carbonation, gets deformed and becomes cylindrical. A solution often used to avoid such deformation is a very narrow grip area with spiral ribs, which avoid the increase of volume due to the internal pressure.
The R&D Department has developed an innovative structure, which alternates rigid rib areas with flat areas to discharge the force. This structure, when repeated alternatively over a number of vertical sections, prevents the radial deformation and, at the same time, avoids any collapse along preferential directions. This structure has also allowed an extreme light-weighting of the bottle, reaching record weights of 18.9g for the still version and 22.5g for the sparkling one. The bottle design permits having the same container for both still and sparkling products, with the advantage of being able to create a corporate shape instantly recognisable on the shelves.
The Global Bottled Water Award is just the very last recognition obtained by PET Engineering during 2013. A clear example of the company’s continuous improvement towards excellence in the design and industrialization of PET containers.
